This gorgeous beach house was one of our first big Hemme projects. From drapes to pillows, Mandy had a lot of fun pulling it together. But the highlight was swimming at the beach and sipping cocktails on the deck (all in a days work!).
It started with a site visit while this Scandi inspired home was still being built. We consulted on window treatments, fabric choices and did a check measure all in one visit. It evolved into a design consult for the main living area and then we went to work!
The kitchen was already in the works so we helped pull together the finishing touches through our design services. Just waiting on that backsplash tiled to be installed.
The beautiful home is located around the corner from the famous beach, nestled into a cedar forest so keeping the materials light and natural was key to reflecting the outdoors. So we chose classic sandy linen drapes and subtly striped Romans shades.
We installed our first readymade shower curtain in her bathroom, which is available in our new shop!
With all the key elements being neutral, she wanted to punch up the personality with some boho pillows. We put together a fun scheme for her and she loves mixing and matching the pillows throughout the space.
She wanted to keep the bedrooms calm and minimal but wanted to add in some colour, so we made custom king size quilts for each bed pulling from the pillow palette. Hey, we can make a lot of things!
We are still working on the space and decorating the outdoor entertaining space in summer 2021. Here are more photos of this lovely home:
Every once in awhile you get a client who is not afraid of colour or pattern. A rare find! Stephanie, a fantastic art director (btw), was in the midst of renovating her new home and got in touch with Hemme. We first met up for a fabric consultation as the starting point (always start with fabric). During the lockdown, we would send her swatches through the mail and email her photos of fabrics that landed on our desk. We ALWAYS recommend that you see the fabric in the space.
She chose this Kravet Majorelle Blush for her bedroom, bringing a tropical dose of to the space – in a modern way. We also made a coordinating bed lumbar pillow in the same fabric.
Here are a few shots of the work we have done with Stephanie.
These beautiful green painterly floral drapes were made for her living room and completely changed the look of the space. We did contemporary flat panels and hung them tight to the ceiling, creating height in the room.
This set of drapes – in a whimsical but modern bird print – were hung in her home office.
One of our favourite sources for fabrics is Schumacher and we love this Abstract Leaf pattern for her bathroom.
A Roman shade is a great way to showcase a special fabric, and you don't need a lot of yardage so it keeps the costs down. We love the green and white feather print paired with the black and white palette offset with the natural wood door.
A pretty striped Roman shade plays well with the area rug in this walk-in closet.
Stephanie had this chair with great bones but it was worn. She chose this lively green and yellow leaf pattern to work with the rest of her home and fabric choices. Everything is looking so good! We love working with Stephanie!
Continue readingDrapery comes in all sorts of styles, but did you know you can do "faux" drapes? We are talking about drapes that are purely decorative and do not need to function or cover the window. If you already have a shade or have no need for privacy in a certain window, a stationary drape will finish the look and save the cost of extra yardage.
Here is a shot of the floor clearance, we always want to get the details just right!
That goes for hardware installation as well, our installer Dan is checking that the rod is installed at the exact right height.

We do all sorts of custom sewing for our clients! And we were excited when this project came our way. We transformed beloved 1970s sleeping bags into 11 new pillows that our client gave to family as gifts. Fun idea, right?
The sleeping bags were in rough shape and shredding before our eyes but we tried to save every scrap we could, including sewing on the original silk tag and used the cording as zipper pulls.
Each pillow was completely unique on both front and back side.
We used a hearty linen to blend with the sleeping bag fabric and finished with exposed brass zippers (like you would find on vintage sleeping bags).
Our client was thrilled and we had a lot of fun putting them together.

This summer, we worked with a client on their kitchen and dining nook makeover. Not to brag, but our clients have the best style!
First, the client worked directly with Mandy to pull together the finishing touches on the kitchen plan they were in the midst of executing. They already had the kitchen designed, they just needed help with finishes like cabinet colour, lighting, hardware and the soft bits like Roman shades and a custom banquette cushion (our specialty). Custom cabinetry was made by Greg Moogk.
Hemme really came through with the dining nook. We created this breezy Roman shade that filters in soft light and adds a hint of texture.
Next came the custom bench seat. Since the bench consisted of two pieces that jogged an obstruction in the wall, we created a paper template of the bench to ensure a perfect fit.
We helped the client choose this gorgeous blue velvet, injecting some colour into the space.
We finished the look with a mix of custom pillows (made by us, of course!) and some readymade pillows from Tonic Living.
